An island of Indonesia, lying south of Borneo and west of Bali. Java is a prime growing region for cacao beans. Ironically, the majority of the cocoa that comes from Java today is of inferior quality, but this is due to poor post-harvest practices. Much of the genetic pool of cocoa on Java is very old, however, and when the right farmers and plantations are located, the island can yield some fine-quality cocoa.
